Mazda has implemented a recall and stop sale of its popular CX-5 crossover SUV. The issue, which the automaker filed in a safety defect report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), is that a fuel filler pipe can rupture in the event of a rear end collision. This rupture may cause a fuel leak, which is a potential fire hazard.

The problem affects 2014-2016 model years, resulting in a recall of approximately 264,463 vehicles in the U.S. Thankfully, there have been no reports of accidents or injuries as a result of the condition. And while Mazda has not yet indicated a repair for the issue, customers who currently own a CX-5 are able to get a free loaner, demo or rental vehicle from their dealer if they are uncomfortable driving their car until it has been fixed.
