The Netflix Original train keeps on chugging, as it’s now being reported that the streaming giant will develop and produce a new TV show based on The Witcher Saga, the eight novel series written by Andrzej Sapkowski that inspired the popular video game franchise developed by CD Projekt Red.

Even better, Sapkowski — who does not actually profit from the game series — is set to serve as a creative consultant on the show. “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories,” he said in a press release, “staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing.”

While the Netflix series will have nothing to do with CD Projekt Red’s games, there is at least one confirmed link between the two adaptations, as Tomas Baginski — who directed the intro cinematics for all three Witcher games, as well as the teaser trailer for CD Projek Red’s next project, Cyberpunk 2077 — is on board to direct at least one episode per season.

The Witcher series will be overseen by Sean Daniel and Jason Brown, both of whom currently serve as executive producers on The Expanse. “The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world,” the due said. “The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.”

No release date or casting information has been revealed yet.
