In light of the tragic shooting in Las Vegas earlier this week that killed at least 59 people and injured more than 500 others, Marvel and Netflix have decided to cancel their panel for Marvel’s The Punisher at this weekend’s New York Comic Con.

“We are stunned and saddened by this week’s senseless act in Las Vegas,” Netflix and Marvel said in a joint statement today. “After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn’t be appropriate for Marvel’s The Punisher to participate in New York Comic Con,” the statement read, no doubt referring to the heavy use of gun violence in the TV series. “Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy.”

Many had speculated that Marvel and Netflix would reveal the release date for The Punisher at the show’s panel, which was easily one of the most anticipated of the entire weekend. We aren’t going to weigh into the debate over whether or not Marvel and Netflix made the right call here but if you were planning on attending NYCC primarily for The Punisher panel, this will no doubt be disappointing news.
