According to TMZ, former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio, who now goes by the wrestling name Alberto El Patron in Global Force Wrestling, is being investigated for a domestic violence incident in Florida on Sunday.

Del Rio (real name Jose Rodriguez) was allegedly involved in an incident with an unnamed female at the Orlando airport. Police were called to the scene and later issued the following statement:

“There was an incident at Orlando International Airport at about 3 p.m. Sunday involving Jose Rodriguez (DOB 5/25/1977) The reported incident was a domestic violence battery, and it is still under investigation. No arrests have been made as of this time, but the case remains open. That is all the information we have for release at this time.”

Del Rio (which is the name we’ll use for the rest of this article, since it’s what most wrestling fans will know him as) is engaged to long-time girlfriend Paige, who remains a WWE wrestler. There is no confirmation that she was the female involved in this incident, although some witnesses say that the two were spotted together at the airport on Sunday, so it does seem likely.

Del Rio, 40, recently won and unified the Global Championship and Impact Wrestling Championship at the company’s Slamiversary event. He left the WWE in 2016 in order to work a more relaxed schedule with TNA/Impact/GFW, and his new employer has released the following statement regarding the domestic violence investigation, courtesy of ProWrestlingSheet.com

“Global Force Wrestling takes all legal situations very seriously and is looking into this matter.  GFW is a privately-held company and will thoroughly investigate this incident and fully cooperate with law enforcement.”

We’ll have more information on this as it becomes available.
