Warner Bros. has reportedly found a frontrunner to direct Suicide Squad 2.

According to Deadline, The Shallows director Jaume Collet-Serra is reportedly the studio’s top choice to direct the upcoming sequel, which will see the return of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Will Smith’s Deadshot, among others.

Previously, Mel Gibson was reported to be in talks to direct, but Collet-Serra has been in the conversation since March at least. It’s unclear if Gibson did indeed pass on the project.

In addition to The Shallows, Collet-Serra has directed films such as Orphan, Non-Stop and Run All Night.

David Ayer, who directed the original Suicide Squad, is set to helm Gotham City Sirens, a spinoff film set in the DC Extended Universe that will feature Robbie’s Harley Quinn and other popular female DC characters like Catwoman and Poison Ivy.
