Many directors love to give themselves cameos in their own movies and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards has made no secret of the fact that he appears in the film. However, Edwards has not revealed where he appears in the film and up until now, no one has been able to figure out what his cameo is.

Fortunately, Star Wars News Net is reporting that a Star Wars fan by the name of Leonardo Dalvidia claims to have spotted Edwards in the film. Dalvidia rewatched Rogue One closely and figured out that Edwards is among the Rebel soldiers aboard Princess Leia’s ship, the Tantive IV. Specifically, Edwards is the guy who disengages the Tantive IV, thus allowing Princess Leia and the Death Star plans to escape from the clutches of Darth Vader.

Although his cameo isn’t as cool as Daniel Craig’s stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, you kind of have to admire the filmmaker’s relative modesty in making his role both insignificant and quietly heroic at the same time. Apparently, Edwards is set to cameo in Star Wars: Episode VIII as well, so we’re looking forward to seeing if he quietly saves the day in that film too!
