Prior to his appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming, the Vulture (Michael Keaton) had not been seen in any prior Spider-Man films and it looks like the sequel will follow suit by featuring a Spidey villain that has not yet appeared on the big screen.
In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Marvel Studios president and Homecoming producer Kevin Feige said that they want to feature a foe that Spider-Man has yet to face in the next film.
“We are excited to use characters that you haven’t seen before on screen. So that narrows it down a little bit in terms of who will pop up next,” Feige said. “Spider-Man has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to villains and there are a lot that haven’t been touched upon. It’s those that we will be looking at first.”
Previous films (including Homecoming) have featured villains like Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Venom, Sandman, Rhino, Shocker, Vulture, and the Lizard, but anyone familiar with Spider-Man’s rogues gallery knows that there are still quite a few prominent foes to choose from. Some possibilities include Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, Scorpion, Mister Negative, Chameleon, and many others.
Personally, I think it’s high time ol’ fishbowl himself, Mysterio, was given his due, but Kraven or Scorpion would also be solid choices. The sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is due out on July 5, 2019 and will be the first film in Phase four of the MCU and given how well Homecoming turned out, I can’t wait to see what Tom Holland’s Spidey does next!
