Ryan Reynolds is refusing to let the dream die.

Although he has already shot down rumors that Deadpool will have a cameo in the upcoming Logan, a super-serious looking rated-R Wolverine film, Reynolds is still holding out hope for a potential on-screen meeting between his Merc with a Mouth and Hugh Jackman’s celebrated X-Men character. One big problem, though, is Jackman’s insistence that Logan will be his final time playing Wolverine.

In a new interview with Variety, Reynolds discusses Deadpool‘s chances during awards season, plans for future sequels, and trying to change Jackman’s mind about leaving the beloved character behind.

I would love to play Deadpool for as long as they would let me play Deadpool. We have outlines and stories for a number of different films.

…I have no idea if I can change [Jackman’s] mind [about a team up]. It’s the audience: I would exclusively exploit that relationship to get Hugh back for another one.

Jackman, for his part, managed to leave the door open just one tinsy, tiny crack.

“I’m hesitating,” said Jackman.”Because I could totally see how that’s the perfect fit. But the timing may be wrong.”

If Logan can even come close to matching the box office success of Deadpool, Marvel and Fox Studios should have plenty of money available to throw at Jackman for one last round of sideburns and Adamantium claws.
