Netflix has acquired the rights to develop a Shaft reboot starring Samuel L. Jackson.

According to Deadline, Netflix is reportedly on the hook for half of the film’s $30 million budget in exchange for the international rights and the right to stream the new film outside of the US two weeks after it hits theaters. In the US, the film will maintain a more traditional release model of opening in cinemas and hitting streaming services and physical media later to avoid harming theater chains.

Neither Netflix or New Line, the studio behind the Shaft reboot, have made official comments on this alleged deal, but sources claim that it has been in the works for several weeks.

The Shaft reboot currently has no title, but will see several cast members from the 2000 film return, including Samuel L. Jackson and Richard Roundtree. Tim Story (Fantastic Four, Ride Along) is attached to direct.
