Marvel movies continue to be anywhere from good to really great, with two or three new ones being released every year now. One thing that is definitely missing, though, is Natalie Portman’s character from Thor, scientist (and love interest) Jane Foster.

Although Portman did appear in the first sequel, Thor: The Dark World, she won’t be in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarak. She’s been busy doing projects that feature much less CGI effects, which she says are more engaging for her as an actress.

From Deadline:

“[Working on an effects heavy movie] is really challenging for me that and I don’t feel like I have gotten it yet. I don’t feel like I have understood it yet. It is something that I’m fascinated by, because I’m really challenged by it more than anything almost. Because when you are in a room that looks like a room and has all the things a room has in it, you can interact with all that stuff, and all that stuff does what it does in life. You don’t have to imagine anything. You are just in the emotional state of your character. When you are doing those blue screen movies, you have to imagine everything outside and within. You have to create the whole world. It is like being a kid again.”

Portman also appeared in the Star Wars prequels, so she has done her fair share of acting in front of a screen instead of on a real set. Still, comic book fans would love to have Foster reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point down the road, possibly in the Infinity Wars movies. Luckily, Portman didn’t outright dismiss the possibility of a Thor/Jane Foster reunion in the future.

“Yeah, well hopefully one day I figure it out!” laughed Portman.

Until then, we’ll just have to be content with the huge ensemble of other Hollywood stars who make up the MCU.
