Hollywood is wasting no time in getting a Hugh Hefner biopic off the ground, as less than a week after the Playboy founder’s death, we’re already hearing news that the project already has its director and star.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blade Runner 2049 star Jared Leto will play the high profile rapscallion, with none other than Brett Ratner, the visionary filmmaker behind such classics as X-Men: The Last Stand and Tower Heist, set to direct.
Here’s what Ratner had to say on the project:
“Jared is an old friend. When he heard I got the rights to Hef’s story, he told me, ‘I want to play him. I want to understand him.’ And I really believe Jared can do it. He’s one of the great actors of today.”
Interestingly, Ratner has been working on the project since 2007 and after bouncing back between a few different studios, the film is now fully in the filmmaker’s hands. Honestly, we’re just looking forward to hearing the behind-the-scenes stories that are sure to come out of this film, given that noted method actor Leto has probably already taken up residence at the Playboy Mansion in order to fully “understand” his character.
No release date has been given for the Hugh Hefner biopic.
