As was the case with the initial Deadpool 2 teaser released a few months ago, the new “Meet Cable” trailer’s most exciting moments come towards the end with a smash cut of footage from the actual movie (as opposed to the Merc with a Mouth’s entertaining diorama piece that, while hilarious, doesn’t actually tell us much about the movie).

Naturally, fans have been poring over the trailer to try and uncover its secrets, with The Hollywood Reporter senior staff writer Ryan Parker dropping this little nugget on Twitter:

Yup, Wade’s shirt is a reference to the 1985 classic The Goonies, which is rather fitting given the context of this scene. Not only does Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) bear a striking resemblance to Sloth, Chunk’s deformed brute buddy, but Cable himself — Josh Brolin — was one of the film’s main stars! Reynolds even chimed in, confirming the Easter egg:

As Parker points out, this attention-to-detail is hopefully a sign that Deadpool 2 will be stuffed to the gills with Easter eggs and other clever references (and judging by the subtle riff on the Justice League mustache fiasco, a whole bunch of shade being thrown at other comic book movies as well).

Deadpool 2 hits theaters on May 18th. With Avengers: Infinity War and Solo: A Star Wars Story also releasing that month, May is shaping up to be one of the biggest blockbuster months of all time. We can’t wait to see which film will reign supreme once the dust settles.
