Following reports that Fox has ordered a brand-new Marvel mutant series from Burn Notice creator Mat Nix, we’re now learning that none other than Bryan Singer is being brought in to direct the pilot.
Singer, of course, is well known for his involvement with the X-Men film franchise, having directed four entries since the very first back in 2000, so having the filmmaker involved on the TV side makes perfect sense. Here’s the original report from THR:
“Fox is turning to an X-Men expert to helm its Matt Nix drama.
The network has tapped Bryan Singer to helm the untitled Marvel drama, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. In addition, Singer will executive produce the potential series — which would mark the first live-action X-Men entry on broadcast.”
The confusing bit in all of this is how closely related the series will be to the X-Men. It was initially reported that the series would be mutant-focused rather than overtly X-Men-centric, but the wording in THR’s story suggests that it is linked closely with the X-Men.
There is still no word on when Fox’s X-Men/mutant TV pilot might start shooting, let alone air, but this is definitely one we’ll be keeping a close eye on.
