It can be a bit difficult trying to keep up with DC’s upcoming slate of movies but if you’ll recall, the studio decided a while back that it was going to split the Shazam movie into two films — one focused on the titular hero, the other on his main nemesis, Black Adam. We’ve known for some time that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be playing the latter, but so far no one has been cast as Shazam (Captain Marvel to the DC purists).

While he may or may not be in a position to influence these kinds of decisions (we just assume that there is no limit to what The Rock can do at this point), the actor has some ideas about who he’d like to see face off against Black Adam. Here’s what he had to say to We Got This Covered on the matter:

“I’m gonna throw one name out here and I wanna see how the fans are gonna react to this. A guy who I met, after I met him I was like, ‘Man that guy’s such a cool guy, he’s a lot bigger than I thought he would be.’

And when I walked away I remember telling our who I’ve worked with for a long time, Hiram Garcia – we both looked at each other and were like, ‘Possibly Shazam?’ I’m not even gonna tell you his name, I’m just gonna say Lone Ranger.

You could see that right? I don’t know if he’s interested, and by the way, the studio doesn’t even know that we’ve been having these conversations. I just remember meeting him and walking away going, ‘Man that guy would look great I bet as Shazam’—and by the way, he’s one of a handful (of names).”

Although he deliberately doesn’t mention him by name, The Rock is clearly talking about Armie Hammer (The Social Network, Man From U.N.C.L.E.). Hammer is one of those actors who does great work in whatever he’s in, but seems to keep landing roles in ill-fated films (The Lone Ranger being one such prominent example). Most recently, Hammer had a scene-stealing role in Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire, a film that you probably didn’t see but absolutely should.

All of this is a long way of saying that we are on board with The Rock’s endorsement for Armie Hammer as Shazam. Let’s make this happen, WB!
