A listing spotted on Blizzard’s job openings page has seemingly revealed that the developer is working on remastered versions of two of its most popular games, Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2.
Here’s what the listing for a Senior Software Engineer position (originally spotted by PCGamesN) says:
“Compelling stories. Intense multiplayer. Endless replayability. Qualities that made StarCraft, Warcraft III, and Diablo II the titans of their day. Evolving operating systems, hardware, and online services have made them more difficult to be experienced by their loyal followers or reaching a new generation. We’re restoring them to glory, and we need your engineering talents, your passion, and your ability to get tough jobs done.”
It’s being speculated that since the job listing is for a server engineer, Blizzard may be considering making these remastered games (if they do in fact exist, of course) available through the core Blizzard App. As things stand right now, the only way to play Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2 online is through a legacy version of Battle.net.
With a StarCraft remaster already on the way this summer, there’s certainly precedent for Blizzard to be working on remastered versions of its old games but until the company issues a statement on the matter, this should still be filed firmly under “rumor.”
