In their Pokémon-focused Nintendo Direct this morning, Nintendo announced that Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon will be coming out this fall for the 3DS only and not the Nintendo Switch like many had expected.

In the past, developer Game Freak has stated that they “believe that Pokémon is best on a handheld,” which might explain why they’re keeping it on the 3DS platform (though that statement ignores the fact that the Switch is technically a handheld console too). At the very least, the Switch will not be without a Pokémon game, as Nintendo also announced that Pokkén Tournament DX will be available for the console on September 22nd, 2017, but that’s likely small consolation for Pokémon fans who were hoping they’d be able to ditch the 3DS for the next entry in the main series.

Ultra Sun and Moon, an updated version of the same games Nintendo put out last fall, will feature an alternate storyline with new creatures and will release on November 17th, 2017.
