Microsoft has confirmed it has discontinued production of the original Xbox One model and in fact, stopped manufacturing it over a year ago.
First reported by Console Deals after it was discovered that Microsoft’s UK Online Store had the console listed as sold out, Microsoft later confirmed the news in a statement to Glixel: “As is typical for the console industry, we stopped manufacturing the original Xbox One when we introduced Xbox One S.”
Microsoft introduced the Xbox One S last year to replace its original model, which was criticized for being too bulky, loud, and needlessly having a gigantic power brick (Ed. note: I still have one of these monstrosities and can confirm it is a garish piece of tech). With the arrival of the Xbox One X later this year and a wide array of Xbox One S bundles either available or on the way, there really is no reason for Microsoft to keep the original Xbox One model around any more.
Goodnight, fat prince …
